One company, Zydus, said that for the present it is only looking to market the drug in India but will later look to other markets where patent law would permit its sale. Indian companies are not obliged to respect the patent on Acomplia under world trade rules as it was developed before 1995. Acomplia was only approved in the UK mid-2006 (C&I 2007, 10, 7).
